چکیده
Orangutan is a great ape that has anatomical and physiological aspects similar to those of gorillas chimpanzees, although orangutan more arboreal than other apes. This research aims study the morphofunctional characteristics lower hindlimb foot muscles Bornean its relation type locomotion daily behavior. was conducted on right leg male by observing morphology behavior through video observations. The results showed digital flexor are developed plantar as an adaptation towards activities require finger movements such gripping tree branches. Orangutans have rudimentary hallux, which related less intrinsic muscle indicated way grips branches dominantly using digits II-V. At certain time, orangutans active terrestrial causes extensor activity. It can be concluded in accordance function terrestrial.

Speciation and intrasubspecific variation of Bornean orangutans, Pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus.
Mitochondrial DNA control region sequences of orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus) from six different populations on the island of Borneo were determined and analyzed for evidence of regional diversity and were compared separately with orangutans from the island of Sumatra. Within the Bornean population, four distinct subpopulations were identified. Furthermore, the results of this study revealed marked...
متن کاملPhilopatry and reproductive success in Bornean orang-utans (Pongo pygmaeus).
Behavioural observations suggest that orang-utans are semi-solitary animals with females being philopatric and males roaming more widely in search of receptive partners, leading to the prediction that females are more closely related than males at any given site. In contrast, our study presents evidence for male and female philopatry in the orang-utan. We examined patterns of relatedness and pa...
متن کاملThe Ontogeny of Gap Crossing Behaviour in Bornean Orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus wurmbii)
For orangutans, the largest predominantly arboreal primates, discontinuous canopy presents a particular challenge. The shortest gaps between trees lie between thin peripheral branches, which offer the least stability to large animals. The affordances of the forest canopy experienced by orangutans of different ages however, must vary substantially as adult males are an order of magnitude larger ...
متن کاملEffects of Pleistocene glaciations and rivers on the population structure of Bornean orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus).
Sundaland, a tropical hotspot of biodiversity comprising Borneo and Sumatra among other islands, the Malay Peninsula, and a shallow sea, has been subject to dramatic environmental processes. Thus, it presents an ideal opportunity to investigate the role of environmental mechanisms in shaping species distribution and diversity. We investigated the population structure and underlying mechanisms o...
متن کاملPregnancy diagnosis in the orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) using the subhuman primate pregnancy test kit.
A determination was made of the gestational interval over which the Subhuman Primate Pregnancy Test, a hemagglutination inhibition test for urinary chorionic gonadotropin, accurately indicated conception and the continuation of pregnancy in an orangutan (Pongo pygmaseus). The initial positive diagnostic test response occurred about 8 months before parturition and positive responses continued th...
